Leroy Bar-Natan
About me
Hi, I'm Leroy. I'm a multidisciplinary artist. In my work I combine painting, photography, video, text and performances with audience participation. One of the main themes I work with is the "other" body – old, disabled, scarred, hairy, queer – all that's treasured in the body, in our will of the body and its potential to change. Usually I work with my body in almost every medium.
Another theme in my work is my relationship with the audience. My performances require audience participation and usually deal with empathy. I spread my poems in the street on stickers. Graffiti that has been reacted to, changed, and been turned into a new creation, layers upon layers of correspondence between strangers always excites me.
I graduated with excellence from the art school in Sapir College in 2019, and won second place in the short story competition "Personal Stamp", and the ARTiq Creativity Encouragement Award – an initiative that promotes queer art in Israel. I have exhibited in official and alternative places in the country.
